Geographical and Forest Area:- Geographical Area 16,120 Sq. Kms Forest Area 7,241 Sq.Km Percentage of Forest Area 44% Adilabad: A perfect getaway, Adilabad has places for trekking and bird watching. Owing to the geographical position, this area had been ruled by the Mauryas and Mugals from the north and the Satavahanas and Chalukyas from the south. There is a railway station in Adilabad which connects the South Central line. Hyderabad airport is 280 kms. away. Bellampalli: A coal mine town, the first mine was established in 1936 by the British. The distance from Bellamalli to Adilabad is 134 kms. There is a railway station here. Nirmal: Famous for the Nirmal paintings. The name of the town which has a history of 400 years has been derived from the ruler Nimma Naidu in the 17th Century. He was patron of the toy making industry from teak wood. Mandamarri: There are coal mines belonging to the Singareni collieries out of which 10 are underground ones. There are many temples here of which the recently famous one is the Panchamukhanjaneya. There are many churches and mosques also. The town has a railway station and there is a large network of roads to all big cities. It is 282 kms. to Hyderabad from this town by road. Sirpur: It is a 1000 year old town. It was ruled by the Gond Rahahs and subsequently to Asaf Jahi. Sirpur has a paper mill. The population is basically farmers and they cultivate paddy and vegetables. The distance between Sirpur and Adilabad is 74 kms. Luxettipet: It is named after a business man Laksmi Setty, the town is near the River Godavari. The town is 132 kms. from Adilabad. There is a 1000 year old Jagganath swamy temple and three Hanuman temples apart from the new temples that have come up. There is a CSI church built in the 1930s. The nearest railway station is at Mancherrial,25 kms. away. There are regular buses from Karimnagar, which is 65 kms. away Mancheriyal: Manchiryal, previously known as Garmilla, has a railway station. It is located 253 kms. north east of Hyderabad. Kuntala waterfalls, the highest in Andhra, are within the vicinity. The Pranahita wild life sanctuary is also nearby. Known for the habitat of Bar headed Ducks, Brahminy Bucks, Open Billed Storks, the sanctuary is home to Cheetals, four horned antelopes, wild dogs, forest cats, leopards, Nilgai, Sambar and Chinkaras. Water Falls in Adilabad Pochera Waterfalls: The falls is in dense forest and less frequented as it is a small waterfall. It is 6 kms. from Boath. The scenery here is wonderful considering the dense forest. Kuntala Waterfalls: the tallest waterfall in the state, it towers 45 metres and is a place where tourists visit frequently. It is 12 kms. away from the National Highway from Neredigonda Temples in Adilabad Basara Temple : The Basara Gnana Saraswathi temple is the biggest attraction in Adilabad District. It is situated 200 kms. from Hyderabad. It is on the banks of Godavari River. The presiding deities are Goddess Saraswathy, Goddess Leksmi and Goddess Kali. Children are brought here for initiating their education. The Vedavathi Sila, the Ashtatheertha, the Mahankali Temple, the Dattatreya Temple, Sri Vyasa Maharshi Guha and the Lord Shiva templeon the banks of River Godavari are the other pilgrimage sites in Basara. Utnoor Temple:The temple is 56 kms. from Adilabad and 25 kms from Keslapur. The temple in this town is known as Ramalayam and on Gokul ashtami, the women of the place perform a dance known as Mathuri. There is a fort known as Rajgond Fort. Keshlapur Temple: The famous temple of Nagoba, the serpent God known as “Shesha Nag” is here. Shesha Nag is the divine serpent of Lord Shiva. Keslapur is 32 kms. from Adilabad. The Gonds, tribals in Andhra perform the Gusadi dance in honour of the Nagoba Jathra. They perform the dance with ash smeared all over their body with a cotton cloth around their waist and a headgear made of peacock feathers. The temple is so famous that Gonds from the neighbouring state of Maharashtra come to offer their prayers. Jainath Temple: The Laxminarayana Temple which is situated 15 kms. from Adilabad town is an ancient temple. There is a stone inscription near the temple stating that the structure was constructed by the Pallava chief. Dams in Adilabad Mathadivagu Project: This is an earth dam constructed across the Mathadivagu, a tributary of the Godavari River. The project is at Waddadi village. Kadam Dam: The Kadam dam is across the River Kadam in the Peddur village. This dam has brought under cultivation 68000 acres of land. Completed in 1964, the dam has brought relief to the Telengana farmers.
